What each part does<\/h2>\r\n

The wheel hub<\/h3>\r\n

The hub is the body the wheel turns on. It houses the bearings, carries the brake disc or drum and transfers the full weight of the load to the axle. With disc brakes it works at high temperatures, so its condition affects braking and bearing life.<\/p>\r\n

Wheel bearings<\/h3>\r\n

They let the wheel turn with minimal friction while carrying radial and axial loads at the same time. On commercial vehicles they are often fitted as a unit or as a complete kit, so it is important to order the exact part number for each make and axle rather than improvising with similar sizes.<\/p>\r\n

The ABS ring<\/h3>\r\n

This is the toothed ring read by the ABS sensor. Each tooth generates a pulse, and the control unit uses those pulses to calculate the speed of each wheel. If the ring has damaged teeth, is deformed or does not have the correct number of teeth, the system receives a wrong signal and may disable ABS or turn on the warning light.<\/p>\r\n

Signs of wear to watch for<\/h2>\r\n

Spotting a worn hub, bearing or ring early prevents bigger failures and vehicle downtime. These are the most common signs:<\/p>\r\n

Noise or humming<\/h3>

A hum that rises with speed or changes in corners usually points to a worn bearing.<\/p><\/div>\r\n

Wheel play<\/h3>

If you feel play when rocking the raised wheel, check the bearings and hub before the damage spreads.<\/p><\/div>\r\n

Hot hub<\/h3>

A hub that runs hotter than the others after a trip suggests excessive friction or a lack of lubrication.<\/p><\/div>\r\n
