● Industrias Onyarbi ● 5 min read ● Truck, trailer and semi-trailer parts

October brings new part numbers in one of the fastest-moving product families in any parts warehouse: hubs, wheel bearings and ABS rings.

These are parts a workshop needs to have on hand. When a truck or semi-trailer comes in with wheel noise, play in the hub or the ABS warning light on, nobody wants to wait days for the part to arrive. That is why we chose fast-moving part numbers for the European fleet, and they are already in our warehouse.

In this article we walk you through what is new this month, how to identify each part and what to check when fitting it. We will keep adding any new arrivals here throughout October.

What each part does

The wheel hub

The hub is the body the wheel turns on. It houses the bearings, carries the brake disc or drum and transfers the full weight of the load to the axle. With disc brakes it works at high temperatures, so its condition affects braking and bearing life.

Wheel bearings

They let the wheel turn with minimal friction while carrying radial and axial loads at the same time. On commercial vehicles they are often fitted as a unit or as a complete kit, so it is important to order the exact part number for each make and axle rather than improvising with similar sizes.

The ABS ring

This is the toothed ring read by the ABS sensor. Each tooth generates a pulse, and the control unit uses those pulses to calculate the speed of each wheel. If the ring has damaged teeth, is deformed or does not have the correct number of teeth, the system receives a wrong signal and may disable ABS or turn on the warning light.

Signs of wear to watch for

Spotting a worn hub, bearing or ring early prevents bigger failures and vehicle downtime. These are the most common signs:

Noise or humming

A hum that rises with speed or changes in corners usually points to a worn bearing.

Wheel play

If you feel play when rocking the raised wheel, check the bearings and hub before the damage spreads.

Hot hub

A hub that runs hotter than the others after a trip suggests excessive friction or a lack of lubrication.

ABS warning light

A reading fault on one wheel can come from a damaged, dirty or loose ring.

Grease leaks

Grease on the rim or hub cap points to a worn seal.

Uneven tire wear

A tire wearing unevenly can be hiding play in the wheel assembly.

Fitting and maintenance tips

  1. Confirm the part number

Before you strip anything down, check the part number against the OEM number or the cross-reference on the data sheet. If in doubt, send us the original number and we will help you identify it.

  2. Keep it clean

Dirt is a bearing's worst enemy. Clean the hub and spindle, and keep the part in its packaging until you are ready to fit it.

  3. Use the right tools

Fit bearings and rings with a press or a dedicated tool, pushing on the correct race. Never hit the bearing directly.

  4. Follow the manufacturer's torque and adjustment

Apply the tightening torque and adjustment procedure specified by the axle or vehicle manufacturer.

  5. Check the ABS before closing up

Make sure the ring is properly seated and the sensor sits at the correct distance. Clear any fault codes and check that the warning light goes out.

Workshop tip: if you are replacing the hub or bearings and the ABS ring shows dents or corrosion, replace it at the same time. It is an inexpensive part and saves you from removing the wheel again.

Frequently asked questions

Are the new part numbers available for immediate dispatch?

Yes. All of October's new parts are in stock at our warehouse in Irun, Spain, and ship immediately. If you need special quantities, write to us and we will confirm availability.

How do I check that an Onyarbi part replaces the original?

Each product's data sheet lists cross-references to the original (OEM) number and to other brands. If you cannot find your number, send it to us and we will help you identify the right part.

What are the signs of a worn wheel bearing?

The most common are a hum that rises with speed, play when rocking the raised wheel, a hub that runs hotter than the others and uneven tire wear.

When should the ABS ring be replaced?

When it has damaged teeth, dents, corrosion or deformation, or when the system reports reading faults on that wheel. If you replace the hub or bearings and the ring is not in good condition, it is best to replace it in the same job.

Can I order these part numbers as a distributor?

Yes. We work with distributors and workshops in Spain, Europe, Latin America and other markets. Contact our sales team for terms and volumes.

Will there be more new parts this month?

Yes. We will keep adding the part numbers we bring in during October to this article, so check back for updates.
