DELIVERY 3: The Logistic Brain of Onyarbi (Storage and Classification)

Intelligent Efficiency: This is how we manage thousands of references in the Onyarbi warehouse

Introduction

We have the ability to manufacture thousands of different references for trucks and trailers, covering the main brands of the European market (Scania, Volvo, Mercedes, MAN, ROR, SAF, BPW …). But, what’s the point of making the perfect piece if we can’t find it when the customer needs it urgently? A truck stopped in the workshop costs money every hour.

After visiting production and quality in the previous articles, today we immerse ourselves in the nervous system of Onyarbi Industries: our smart warehouse and the internal classification system.

The Complexity of the Onyarbi Catalogue

As you will have seen in our latest catalogue, our range is immense: brake, suspension, steering and body components. Managing this mix of products – where tiny screws coexist with bulky brake lungs or heavy leaf springs – requires cutting-edge logistics.

Our central warehouse in Europe is designed to maximise space and, above all, minimise response time.

SGA: The Digital Brain and Onyarbi’s Controlled Chaotic Classification System

We use an advanced Warehouse Management Software (SGA). This system knows the exact location, batch and stock level of each reference in real time.

Rotational Classification (ABC): We do not store the pieces at random. The system classifies the references. A products (high rotation, such as fifth wheel kits, bearings, valves or brake chambers) are located in the most accessible areas and close to the shipping docks. C products (low rotation or very specific pieces) are located in higher or more distant areas.

Total Traceability per Batch: Each location on the shelf and each pallet/box has a unique barcode. When the part leaves quality and enters the warehouse, the SGA assigns it an optimal location based on its size, weight and rotation. This allows us to guarantee total traceability: we know which steel casting was used to manufacture the screw that is in the H-12.1 location. A.1.

Description of the suggested video: An operator on a wheelbarrow or on foot, receiving instructions on a wrist or tablet PDA, scanning the barcode of the location and then that of the product box, demonstrating the speed and the absence of paper.

The Picking Process (Order Preparation)

When an order comes in from a customer (either a national distributor or an international customer), the SGA optimises the collection route.

Grouping: The system can group several small orders so that the operator optimises his journey through the warehouse.

Guided: The radio frequency terminal guides the operator: “Go to aisle D, shelf 5, level 3. A.1. and take 10 units of the reference 65.02.23” (Foot Brake Valve).

Validation: The operator scans the product. If you get the wrong reference or quantity, the system whistles and won’t let you continue. This reduces human errors to virtually zero.
